LFW S/R`10 - Day 3 Day 3 of LFW starts with a good show
In spite of it being a Sunday morning, the audience turnout was good for the first show of day three of Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) that had three designers Amalraj Sengupta, Harangad and VJ Balhara back to back, showcasing their prêt/summer resort collection.

Inspired by the colours of the flowers that bloom during spring time, the colour palettes varied from white to pinks to olives across the collections. It was VJB collection that introduced bright oranges and hot pinks on the ramp. The prints were also kept minimal by the first two designers while Balhara opted to weave in his subtle prints and a bit of bling in gold and silver as a part of his collection.

The apparels varied from skirts, jumper-suits, short dresses to kurtis and blousons with subtle design elements on the sleeves, cuts off the shoulders and the drapes of the garments. While Sengupta and Harangad displayed mostly sporty western lines, Balhara put forward his collection as Indian yet fusion wear. Harangad had Ashmit Patel walk the ramp for him as his showstopper.

Globe trotter collection followed by a futuristic line
Asmita Marwa’s prêt line was inspired by Boho Resort titled 'Maya 0° 36’0”S/73° 6’0”E'. The cool and casual look was captured by prints like big checks and diamonds on the garments, made of breathable fabrics like muslin, linen and chiffon.

The jumpsuits, maxi dresses, long skirts, loose flowing ponchos, halter sun dresses, kaftans and draped tops had a carefree yet neat look to them. Shades of orange, red, mustard and blue gave a summer look. The day wear styles had beaded strap across the shoulders and around the neckline. For the evening numbers, rose motifs were added.

Designer Swapnil Shinde's futuristic collection was inspired by robots. There were graphic prints that looked great on zipped up dresses with smart hoods and transparent backs. The use of neon colours like yellow, steel grey, turquoise added a sporty look to the summer prêt line. The use of black was kept minimal though white appeared towards the end of the show. The fitted fabrics varied from lycra to metallics, chiffon, georgettes, patent leather and heavy textured fabrics. The popular pieces from the collection included skirts, artistic corsets and laser cut outs dresses.

Shantanu and Nikhil showcase their sports inspired collection for adidas
The designer duo teamed with adidas to create ‘Motochic’ collection, the first 'S&N' collection for adidas Style Essentials. Adidas tied up with Shantanu and Nikhil to create an exclusive range that has a mix and match of designer sensibilities and a sporty quotient. The line offers fresh colours, silhouettes and styles across categories such as apparel, footwear and accessories for both men and women.

The track pants, shorts, skirts, vests, jackets, polo t-shirts, footwear and bags were very sporty yet had a subtle design element woven in them like a crushed look from behind, zipped backs or balloon shorts with frilly edges. The prints varied from stripes to checks to formula one race motifs. The colours were bright yellow, black and white bearing the adidas logo. Deepika Padukone was the showstopper.

Story telling from Malini Ramani
Designer Malini Ramani chose to tell a story through her collection. Her presentation was engaging as the voice over and the visuals on the projector set the mood for the audience, before the models walked down the runway.

The story was the about Rita who was seeking her soul-mate across the world. Her journey began in Mexico and went on to South of France, Africa, Pushkar and finally ended in Mumbai. She chose to call the final numbers ‘Bombabe’. According to the course of the journey described, the colours varied from bright yellows to pinks, blue and finally black and white. The pastels changed into snake prints and graphics towards the end of the show. There were jump suits, kaftan dresses, cut away resort- wears that were crafted out of flowy fabrics as well as fitted lycras.

Showstoppers were Maheep Kapoor and Mehr Jessia.

Nari presents denim-wear line for Killer Jeans
Killer Jeans (from Kewal Kiran Clothing Ltd) and ace designer Narendra Kumar partnered to create a special denim-wear line.

The Killer Nari SS10 show was much anticipated since the line promised to be a futuristic vision for the young fashionistas. The cuts and fits had a couture feel due to the close attention to detailing. The dresses, jackets, jeans had subtle use of denim and leather. Silks and satins were also included with smartly engineered weaves. The sleeves were the USP of the garments. They were not only structured interestingly but also stood out very well. There were soft multi-padded add-ons on puffy sleeves. The colours varied from blacks to navy blue and hot pinks.

Neil Nitin Mukesh was the show stopper for this collection.
